Services offered

LSLS provides the following services:

Auditory/Speech Therapy Services:
Auditory and Speech Therapy is one to one individual session program focusing on the auditory-verbal modes for deaf children, and articulation, and fluency disorders in speech for other populations with disabilities. Therapy is conducted individually and in groups for the regular education programs daily and for remedial education in the evenings, an hour session is incorporated into the schedule.

Consulting Services:
Most public and private schools in Pakistan have had little direct exposure to the students who are deaf or hard of hearing. When a school does not understand the importance of hearing loss, hearing aids, cochlear implants and other assistive devices commonly used by these students, it can be difficult to anticipate success keeping in view the students’ unique needs, both academically and socially.

LSLS sends its experienced consultant on the staff to provide support and training to school professionals, parents and students through a variety of personalized services which incorporate LSLS’ specific strategies to enhance each student’s communication and success. An appointment should be made with the school for a consulting service on the assessment and academic placement of a deaf child in the base school. Parents are advised to bring the audiogram report, school reports and medical reports of the child to LSLS before the evaluation date.
*Note: Appointment is a requirement of this service as the consultant may have to teach on the staff at the school during the days.

Outreach Education Service:
Individual sessions on learning 3 communication modes and issues of concern are offered to the parents, teachers, and workers in the field of Special Education to communicate with the children who are deaf and hard of hearing. Interactions with community and professionals are also arranged for information exchange and removal of bias and stereotypes.

Counseling service:
Most parents of deaf children feel isolated and alone keeping in mind the cultural pressures of joint families, in laws bias, and illiteracy. Counseling service would help empower the parents to see their deaf child beyond the “deafness” and acquire strategies to cope with the societal stigmas and attitudes in Lahore. The parents of students who need one to one session counseling are asked to the school for details.
